Arizona is a great state to live in if you want to own firearms. With constitutional carry [PDF], and a simple process to obtain firearms, it's easy to own. However, owing is only the tip of the iceberg, and, frankly, the least important aspect.

Firearms training and safety are essential aspects of responsible gun ownership. Whether you are a novice shooter or an experienced gun enthusiast, understanding how to handle firearms safely and effectively is crucial for your well-being and that of others around you. Just like any other skill, such as driving a car or playing a musical instrument, responsibly using a firearm is a skill that is learned. And, like any other skill, if you don't use it, you lose it.

Firearms safety & use training is critical

Firearms are not toys and can be dangerous if used incorrectly. Attending a firearms safety class or firearms training class will help you operate your firearm safely and competently. In addition to initial training, we also highly recommend ongoing, refresher training, even if you regularly attend a range to practice. As with any beginner, bad habits or procedures can occur due to lack of experience. Even veteran gun owners and users can benefit from having a professional instructor look at their techniques.

How to use your firearm safely

Basic firearm safety rules: Familiarize yourself with the fundamental safety rules, often referred to as the Four Cardinal Rules of Firearm Safety:

  1. Treat every firearm as if it's loaded.
  2. Never point your gun at anything you're not willing to destroy.
  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot.
  4. Be aware of your target and what's beyond it.

This is the foundation of all firearm use, but training regularly is important for staying proficient.

Remember, responsible gun ownership includes prioritizing safety, maintaining proper training, and adhering to applicable laws. By following these principles, you can help ensure the safety of yourself and those around you.
